Just Me

Penang - A land with lots of Hokkien Lan

I am glad that I have time to stay in Penang for a couple of days after the mission trip. I have been away for a year, yet, the city was still as stunning as I remembered. So, what had we done in Penang? We went for mural hunt. Penang is one of the top destinations in Malaysia. Penang is famous of its beaches, food and heritage culture. Georgetown became a UNESCO world heritage site in 2008. After winning the award, an art challenge had been organised by the State government to give the city the image of being the "living museum". It was won by "Voices from people". "Voices from people" consists of 52 steel caricatures. These steel caricatures had greatly reflect the living style of Penang people. In 2012, Georgetown commissioned Ernest Zacharevic from Lithuania for the "Mirrors George Town" project. If you would like to know more about the history of Penang, kindly click Penang. From that day onwards, Penang street art had became a hit. People around the world began to flood the island. In 2013, there were a group of artist who install street arts in various location. The objective of the street arts is to raise the awareness over helping the stray animals to find its shelter. This is my third time doing mural hunting with my friends. In cloud nine, we started our journey. It drizzled, yet, it did not stop us from continue our trip.

Our first Stop is Chew Jetty.

Too bad, The mural - Children in a boat disappeared. T^T

We spent the whole morning walking and searching the street arts around the city. Penang people were very friendly. They showed us the direction of the street art when we were lost. An auntie gave us the map which shows all the street art location. Kimberly and I had lots of fun. We visited the Upside down museum and the famous restaurant - China House. I am happy that I could take photos with most of the street arts before it disappeared. I had bought a set of Penang mural art magnet in remembrance of the vanished artworks. That gives me a better reasons to take more photos with the street arts while it still there. That ends the Penang mural hunt.

We left the place after watching the performance of the honor guards of the republic of China Armed Force. It was a hot day, sweat was drilling down from cheeks of the honor guards. The performance was not as grand as what I remembered. This is because the main gate of the hall was under construction.

Our last stop of that day is Ximending. We visited the red house theater at the area. We walked around Ximending but we took the wrong direction. We were suppose to head to Ximending shopping area. Luckily, we got back on the right track after an hour of walk. ><

Day 9 - Jiufen

We went to Jiufen that day. We took a 7.35 a.m. train to there. My friend became our tour guide as she was the one who insisted in going to Jiufen. So, we did nothing but follow her food and places of interest hunt. In Jiufen, you are able to buy souvenirs such as wine, key chain, postcards and etc. Remember to compare the price, sometimes, the price are different from stores to stores.

Cold Ah Po Yu Yuan （阿婆芋圆）

Ah Gan yi yu yuan (阿柑姨芋圆)

I found an interesting magnet, I think only Malaysians know the meaning behind the word.

Beautiful Scenery

I love this beef noodle. I tasted a few years ago when I went to Taiwan with parents. I still love the taste. It is located at the entry of the street.

We headed off to Taipei in the afternoon as the day was dark. It looked like it was going to rain. We decided to stay at hostel and rest.

Day 10- Taipei

Poor Little Kids

Staring at the empty pool. Sadness overwhelmed.

With Mr. Tall Taipei 101

We reserved a day tour with the host. After eating the breakfast, we departed. The host even prepared us with fruit so that we would be hungry throughout the journey. The one day tour costs 320 0 TWD.

Me with the orange juice. I became darker sue to the continuous exposure of sunlight.

The famous Hualian lemon juice. If you love sour taste, you will love this beverage.

A day out under the sun.

Auntie Ling gave us the rain coat and we were not sure when to where it. So, we took off the raincoats for at least 2 times. It was quite embarrassing. Ps. Do not wear skirt while hiking ><

This is the view of Chihsingtan beach (七星潭)

Haha, I forgot all the names of the places ><. Hope you guys will forgive me.  This is the link to the recommended hostel.

Accommodation: near ocean、central-106.10-Quad Room

After finish eating, we saw a long queue in front of a shop. Long queue serves good food. The store serves winter melon tea. The winter melon tea was my saviour in this hot summer. A sip of it leads me to Heaven. If you do not have a sweet teeth, then, you may find it a bit too sweet for you. For me, the sweetness is just appropriate. We planed to buy some of the melon bricks back home. We were told that we have to wait until October for restock. I was shocked as it was just the beginning of July.

Our third stop is 永樂市場. The bus stop name is 水仙宮. We went there for food hunt. I love this fried oyster. This is so far the best fried oyster that I had ever eaten in Taiwan. Haha. Most of the fried oyster in Taiwan tense to be a bit too crispy. (correct me, if I wrongly stated) There are numerous amount of oysters and they tasted so fresh. This is the fried oyster that I ought to.

This is said to be the famous rice bowl in the town. However, for me, it does not impress me much. Maybe rice bowl is not my bowl of food. Still, I recommended you to try it.
